Spiced Mulled Wine

Well this certainly going to be a fun one to play around with! It is so perfect for these frigid months ahead. Mulled wine is basically a warm wine that is infused with different flavors.

I made this for the first time on Christmas with Levi and my parents and it was wonderful! It’s hot and smells amazing and tastes even better. We all curled up with one of these in the afternoon and watched our Christmas movie, Cinderella. I think this about to become a great tradition 🙂 This beverage would be a great way to start any holiday get together. I can’t wait to make it again.

I really like apple cider, the funny thing is that I rarely just drink it. It just pairs so well with different drinks and I also use it for baking cakes. Next year we’re going to have to get some a little more early in the year. There was no cider to be found the week before Christmas. So we ended up going with a juice that didn’t have much added to it. The main difference between juice and cider is that the cider is an unprocessed liquid and juice has gone though processing and has other things (mostly sugar) added.

  • 1 bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon or your favorite dry red
  • 2 cups of apple cider or fresh pressed apple juice
  • 1/4 cup Grand Marnier
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 large orange, sliced
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 star anise
  • Any desired garnishes

In a large sauce pot mix all the ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer for 20-30 minutes. 

I can’t wait to play with these ingredients more and try different combinations!
